SATURDAY'S RACES

PORT NICHOLSON CLUB

A fresh southerly; breeze on Saturday afternoon made for splendid sailing. The Boyal Port Nicholson Yacht Club boats competed in the club handicaps. In the 18ft and under class, A division, there was a field of ten, the' race starting at 3.15 p.m. The course was from Clyde Quay Wharf round Jerningham beacon and the Coromandel buoy, off Kaiwarra, and back to Clyde quay, twice round. The Phantom, the Idono, and the Lavina were first away in that order. The Kotare capsized soon after rounding the Coromandel buoy. The Sue-lem, the Kio 11, and the Phantom went to the assistance of the crew, and shortly afterward returned to the Boat Harbour. The Betty (lniin) "'.was first to finish, followed by the Lavina (1% minutes) lmin 22sec later, and the Scandal (4min) just 4min behind the leader. This race will 'probably have to be resailed. The second-class keelers sailed over a course past Point Jerningham beacon to the -Koro Koro buoy, and back to the finishing line via Somes Rock and Point Jerningham. Seven yachts started at 3 p.m., the Bomp, the Nanette, and the Galatea leading in that order. The Bawene had a head sail blown out at Somes Island. The Nanette (12min) led theGalatea (scr) home by 4min, followed by the Eomp (scr). The corrected times showed the,Nanette 1, the lolanthe 2, the Galatea 3. The B division of 18ft and under class sailed once round the Coromandel course. The Little Haste (scr) was first over the line and held her lend throughout. The corrected times placed White Wings (25 mm) 1. Sea Spook (20min) 2, and Little Haste 3. ' EVANS BAY CLUB. The Evans Bay Yachting Club held a handicap race for Tauranga class (boys') yachts on Saturday. Nine boats went to the starting line. The Jackie (6min) was disabled and did not start. The boys showed great keenness. The Sea Devil went to the front and maintained the lead, being closely followed by the' Midge and the Wendy. The following are the detailed results:— Sea Devil, 2min (Julian), 1: Midge, 3min (I. Watson), 2; Wendy, 3min (G. Grover), 3. Also started: Pixie (3min), Tui (3min), Black Cat (scr), Peter Pan (l%min), Hui (4min), Ajax (4min).
