(Beeeived 14th January, 10 ajn.)j • LONDON, 13th January! : "The Daily Herald" gives promia- [ -ence to the fact that one or two meat ■ combines handling South American! supplies are about to invade the Aus-tralian-meat industry on a large scale in order to take full advantage of tho trading facilities agreed to' at the Ottawa Conference between Britain: and the Dominions. "The Daily Herald" couples this news with the' Australian proposals to develop the Northern territory as a source o£ supplies. Sir Edmund Vestey, in an interview* said it would take Australia a decade to produce enough cattle to replace South American supplies kept out of! Britain By. the Government's policy. Before the end of the year there would be sharp rises in meat, which thej poorest consumers would feel most.
