(Received 14th January, noon.)' \ OTTAWA, 13th January. * Protests against the importation o^ a quarter of a, million pounds of butteij from New Zealand have been received' at the office of the Dominion Minister; of Agriculture. The protests came f ron^ an undisclosed source and were for* warded, by the executive of the unite* farmers of Alberta without comment. . *In the absence of the Minister ■ olj Agriculture, Mr. Weir, who is ill, me* statement can be given by the Department. " ■ . Statistics covering the butter situa* tiqn in Canada indicate that the gnantity in storage on Ist January was less by 4,279,000 pounds than on Istjanu-. ary a year ago. If butter stored inj bond la included, the holdings are approximately 3,833,000 pounds less. The actual production, of butter "it Canada nas been lower every month! from July until December last than tis the same months of the previous yeari but the decrease was lessening gradui ally. However, the December figures indicate that production has slumped again. Butter consumption has also decreased. . . . '
