( Private cablegrams received from Colombo this week indicate a very large sale of tea following the holidays. .Prices were 'more than maintained at previous sales' "rates, and frequently showed advances. Quality; showed improvement, and good teas commanded1 better prices than at the 'Bale held at the close of the'year, and advances oM%d to 2d were recorded. For the sales next week the catalogue will be 3,000,000 pounds. Calcutta cables showed a heavy offering of teas, which were readily taken, and prices were •higher than at the close of the market for the Christmas holidays.
