RACING AT HUTT PARK!

The ■Wellington Trotting Club's Gold Cup Meeting, undoubtedly one of the most popular meetings of the year on the Dominion's light harness calendar, was held at Hutt Park to-day in the most delightful summer weather the club has enjoyed for several years. The track was in first-class order and was very fast. The attendance was excellent. The principal item was the New Zealand Gold Cup, one of the premier prizes to be won during the y.ear, and the field was probably the best that has -yet gone to the post in the race. Trot and by the time _tho field hjd gone half a mile ho was in. second place behind Fairyland. Trotting soundly he remained there till swinging into the straight the final time, when he raced to the lead and won comfortably by a length and a half from Fairyland. Garner, a very hot favourite, was reducing the margin, the1 leaders had on her over the final round when she went into a bad break three furlongs from home, which ruined her chance. Once settled down again, she came very fast into third place, three lengths away. Four lengths back was Edith Voyage, and another ' two lengths away was Wah. Both the last-named pair mad© mistakes. Though reduced to a one-dividend: field, the Hutt Handicap provided a thrilling finish, in wjueh the favourite,; Little Guy, came with a sharp run of less than a furlong and deprived the front marker, Eaydus, of the dividend a couple of strides from the post. Little Guy paced an even race behind Eaydus, and his driver timed his effort to a nicety, winning by a head. It was his first appearance at Hutt Park, and his first important success over a distance. The win was very popular. Tactless was a moderate third three lengths away, with Ariki Toa, who pulled hard all the way, a poor fourth. Times 4min 29 3-ssec,' 4min 30 4-ssec, 4min 30 2-ascc.
