WELLINGTON WINS

ART UNION RESULTS

"NO LUCK" IS LUCKY

SECOND GOES SOUTH

The run of luck which seems to have been against Wellington so far as success in the major prizes iv recent art nnions is concerned turned to-day when a local ticket-holder, under the. inappropriate norn de plume of "No Luck" secured the first prize of £2000 in the "Merry Christmas" Art Union which was drawn in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall thus morning. Tho drawing commenced at 8.30 a.m. and it was not until 11.35 a.m., when there •were less than 30 prizes left for distribution, that the big prize was claimed amid applause from the fair- number of spectators. The owner of the ticket No. V 30727 is not known at present, the only address given being Box 760, lington. The second prize of £.500 went to Canterbury, the lucky ticket being No. Y28819, humorously styled "No Booze," but although the butt came from Canterbury there was no further cluo to tho identity of the winner. Mrs. E. Eade, of Richmond, Nelson, secured the third prize of £200 and the fourth prizo of £100 went to Mrs. Jessie Steel, of 147, Balmoral street, Eden, Auckland. The fifth prize of £50 went to; another Canterbury investor. Some amusement was" eause'd as the names adopted by various tieketholders ■were read out, and a singularly appropriate one was named "Just in Time" and secured thelast but one prize, valued at £5. The Art Union drawing, which was completed shortly .after midday, was conducted under the management of Messrs. N. McArthur and B. L. Ham- ■> mond. Mr. J. W. Hutchen represented the Department of Internal Affairs, and Sergeant W. H. Shnester, representing the Police Department, drew the prize numbers. \ The complete list of prize-winners is jjiv-en be-low:-— " First Prize, £2000. V 30727, "No Luck," Box 760, Wellington..
