SUDAN UNITED MISSION

Mr. H; -W. Milner, of Napier, has been appointed Dominion secretary to the Sudan United Mission, in succession to the late Mr; J. Priestley. Mr. Milner has had experience in all forms.of church activity, and comes well recommended as a sue cessful. organiser, a zealous worker, and an acceptable preacher. He is a returned soldier, and has had considerable farming experience; He was for some time organising secretary for the New Zealand Alliance in the Hawkes Bay area. Mr. and Mrs. Milner were met yesterday at morning tea by a large gathering of friends, and short speeches o£ welcome were made by the president of the mission, the Rev. D. Calder. (lion, secretary to the National Missionary Council of New Zealand), and the Rev. J. Hubbard. The day happened to' mark the coming-of-age of the1 Australian and Ne^v Zealand branch of the mission, and reference was made to the programme that has been formulated for an extensive development of the work during the current, year, largely in response to the urgent requests of the Sudan Government. Mr. Milner, in his reply, spoke of the great opportunity presented by the work at the present time, particularly in relation to the sympathetic attitude of the Government, and his remarks made it clear that he waß taking up. his task in a spirit of enthusiasm and hopefulness. Mr.. W. H. Hiekinbottom, of Cheltenham, !Feilding, a candidate for field service, was also present, and spoke.
