PALMEEBTON N., This ,Day. ■ As a sequel to the attack on free labourers on Wednesday night, when ieight sleeping men were assaulted at a boarding-house "in Stafford street, Feilding, Michael Eonghan, who had been arrested by Senior-Detective Quirke and Sergeant Cahill, appeared ■before Mr. E. M. Watson, S.M., in the Feilding Court yesterday morning to answer a charge that, on or about the 11th January, with intent to do grievous "bodily harm, he did actual bodily harm to Albert Dick. A further charge preferred against accused was that he was deemed to be a rogue and a vagabond within the meaning of the Police Offences Act,1927, in that he was found "by night in a building at 27, Stafford street. " Senior-Detective Quirke applied for a remand to Wellington, and this was granted, accused to appear on the 21st January. The accused applied for bail, and the police asked: that it be substantial in view of the fact that the'injured man was »in hospital and it was not known how serious his condition was. The Magistrate fixed bail, self in £.100 and two approved sureties of £50 each.
