TRIP TO PICTON
The Union Company's fast ferry steamer Eangatira made exceptionally fasti passages 011 her excursion trip to and from Picton yesterday. The ship was crowded to her full capacity when sho left Wellington at S.lO a.m. yesterday, there being d record crowd of 2150 people on board, and about 30 intonding passengers had to be left behind. Picton was in carnival mood, and the excursionists had a happy time. The Rangatira-did the fifty-two miles between Wellington and Picton in,- 2 hours 15 minutes, at an average (speed of 23.11 knots. The average speed from heads to heads was 22.0 kuots. Despite a strong breeze the Eangatira made a record trip back to AVcllington. The steaming time was 2 hours 12 minutes, and the average speed 23.64 knots. The average speed from heads to heads was 23.9 knots. The Kangatira's best previous average speed on t.he Picton exxursion was 23.16 knots on New Year's Day, 1032.
