AN AMENDING BILL
Several important amendments tee included in the Post ana Telcgrapl 'Amendment Bill, which is being intro duced-into the House, of Eoprescnta lives.. ';. \ The Bill provides that in future the Secretary to the, Department will be known as the Director-General of Post and Telegraphs. This will bring the position into line with similar positions held in. all the main countries of the world. The First Assistant Secretary and the Second Assistant Secretary will be known as the Deputy DirectorGeneral and the Director of Postal Services respectively. The Chief Telegraph Engineer will be known as the Chief Engineer. Provision is made for the establishment of a.Post Office Disbursement -fcund,. which 'will enable the Post Office Imprest Account to be kept separate that of the Treasury. Authority: is given for the recovery by responsible officers of Government property improperly obtained and sent for' transmission in postal packets. Fresh limitations are> placed on the weight^ of articles which may be sent by post. ' ' -.
A number of machinery amendments are included with the object of simplifying the wjirk of the Department.
