TRANSPORT CONTROL

THE GOODS SERVICES

ATTITUDE AT NELSON

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

NELSON, 28th November

A public meeting called to discuss the proposed regulations in regard to road transport, as they affect the northern end of tho South ls-rand passed tho following resolution unanimously:—

"That this meeting protests against the proposed Order-hi-Council to provide for the regulation of goods services. The proposed regulations would increase the cost of transport at a time when the lowering of costs to the primary producer is imperative. And further: That -we nrge upon tho Government the desirability of a committeo being set up by the representatives of road transport and other commercial interests to confer with the Minister of Transport with a view to redrafting the proposed regulations to ensure reasonable regulation of transport and that tho operation of the regulations be postponed until the recommendations of tho suggested advisory committee have been considered by Parliament in an entirely new Bill of suitable character-s"

It was the general opinion of speakers that in the interests of the public some form of transport regulations should be made, but the proposed.regulations were likely to act in an arbitrary manner. It was considered that there was no reason why a set of regulations that would act justly and fairly to all could not be framed.
