WAIRARAPA SHOW

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

SOME FINE HORSES

Although there were a few slight showers during the day, the weather on the whole was pleasant and warm - for People's Day, the second day of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society's fifty-sixth annual siiow, yesterday. The day waa observed as a holiday'in Carterton and other Wairarapa towns, and soon after 9 o'clock a steady stream of visitors commenced to arrive, so that by the time the "grand parade" of stock was held in the afternoon there were many thousands of people in 'the grounds. ' The chief attractions of the day were the horse and pony competitions, and some exceptionally fine animals and able riders were seen in the ring. The quality of the animals shown in these classes was very high, and the president,. Mr. G.- W. Hart, remarked that, the entrants in the manners and pace class were- the best that had ever been seen in the Show. Tho champion hack, Metallus, owned by Mr. P. Tilson, was an exceedingly fine animal. The jumping championship was won by Mrs. H. Scales on Clinker. Mr. Donald McKenzie showed the champion Clydesdale stallion and mare, Mr. Arthur Tocker exhibiting the "reserve champion stallion.

The attendance on the second, day was well up_ to that of former years, but on judging day there was some falling off, and this probably accounted for a decrease of £46 18s 6d in the gate takings this year, as compared with last, when £394 ISs was taken.
