The Chancellor of the Exchequer, ,Mji Chamberlain, in answer to ,a question in the House of .Commons, said thatrthe brokerage paid to stockbrokers, solicitors, and others over the War Lpaa' conversion would be somewhat under four, millions sterling. a-. Asked whether in view of the.sudden fall in.the value of the pound ha proposed to take steps to restore its value, Mr. Chamberlain said that h« saw no reason to reconsider his announcement at Ottawa, in which he. said:""We do not see any prospect of a speedy return to the gold standard nor are we prepared at present to say at what parity such a return should bt effected, if or when it takes place."
