During the week-end, the. weather was fair to fine in the western and southern portions of the South Island, but elsewhere mainly cloudy to overcast with rain at scattered places, a few heavy falls occurring on the east coast of the .North Island.. Temperatures have been keen, moderate to strong, winds between south-east and north-east having prevailed.
