Umpires are an essential part, of the game 'of cricket, and it has always been the,aim of the .Wellington Umpires' Association to provide umpires for every match played- under ! the jurisdiction of the Wellington Cricket Association. That achievement has not yet been made, but high hopes are entertained that it will be made in,the not distant future/Each year an appeal is madefor more umpires, and there is usually some response. The need of increased membership was stressed again at the annual meeting of the Wellington Umpires' Association, and it was decided to circularise oil clubs asking their, co-operation, Mr. D. McKenzie offering assistance .in this connection.
The meeting, which was largely attended, was presided over by Mr. C. G. Wilson (president). The report and balancesheet indicated that the association's activities had been satisfactorily carried out during the past year. There was a small credit balance, and there were no outstanding debts. In connection -with the Hood Memorial Fund, it was reported that the monument'to the late Mr. W. S. Hood had been erected. ,;
r A suggestion by Mr. C. G. Wilson that photographs. o£ the late Messrs. W. R. Bock and W. S.
