Six high-pressure transmission wires, which, together with an earthed conductor for the protection of the others against lightning, are now to be pnt in position across the Thames Estuary,' mark an important stage in the development of the national electricity scheme. They will connect the main lines in the east with, those south of the Thames, in Kent, Sussex, and Surrey.
