PATBIARCHAL FIGURE,
In a "second floor back" apartment in Chicago, Dr. Watson lives with, his wife, his paintings, aid his dreams. He is a .big, white-haired, blue-eyed man, looking like a patriarchal figure from one of his own canvasses. He is incredibly active, and, as he speaks, his voice is tremulous with emotion and enthusiasm. [ Dr. Watson was a frequent guest at the home of Victor Hugo. Many seances were held there.. There, are other names. Sir Henry Irving, the Empress Eugenic, Lord Chiselhurst, Charles Gounod, the composer; Lord Salisbury, Sarah Bernhardt, and King Alfonso and Queen Isabella of Spain.All knew the work of Dr. Watson.
After he had taken degrees at.Edinburgh and the University of Paris, Dr. Watson combined teaching with creative art, ( serving as instructor in art and metaphysics at large European universities. Among his pupils were the grandchildren of Baron Rothschild. Queen Maria of Portugal cleaned Dr. Watson's brushes when, she studied art with him. Five times the gifted Scot was decorated by th© French Government for merit, in teaching.
