OVERSEAS EGG TRADE.
. '■ ■ LONDON, 17th September. Two recent shipments of eggs from Vie- ■'. toria, New South Wales, and South Aus- ! tralia have been sold at prices about 3s higher than prevailed at the beginning of -. the month, and actually about 3d above Belgians. Importers are highly satisfied \ -with the quality, condition, and package. The. only complaint is regarding weights. These were obviously correct at time of '.-,- shipment; but owing to evaporation during : th'evoyage some cases of 17 pounders when 1 reweighed touched only" lS%lb. Importers suggest that a little extra weight should / be given .so that the cases contain full ■_ ■weight when.sold here. The prospects for the season are regarded as favourable, ■; provided high quality is maintained, ; though Australians will meet the compe'ti- ■. tion, of large supplies of South African " egs,-the. first of which are arriving next ■week. '"-.!.
