RED CROSS ACTS
ALL CENTRES ENLISTED
Personal investigations made by members of the Bed Cross Society, reports the secretary (Mr. M. S. Galloway), have disclosed a great need for crockery and various comforts amongst the people not only in Wairoa, but in the surrounding country for a radius of ten miles. There are many houses in which practically everything of this nature is broken. The following^ telegram has been sent to tho society's branches throughout New Zealand: —
"After personal investigations in Wairoa by a member of the Napier Bed Cross branch, the executive of the Bed Cross Society has appealed through headquarters to all Bed Cross centres for funds for immediate use, particularly for crockery for the unfortunate sufferers; treat urgent." The Wellington Emergency Committee, said Mr. Galloway, met and voted £50 toward the fund, and had also released from the first year's interest on Dr. Collins's disaster fund £50, making £100 in all. . The Napier branch had a supply, though insufficient, of crockery, and that has been forwarded.
Woolworth's have sent two cases of crockery to the stricken area.
