PATH ALREADY PAVED

iJi i Z S° y r,SMSJ^ South Australia to contest the Great Eastern Steeplechase at Onkaparinp next Easter he will not be the first New Zealander to have made the trip, the way haying been paved by Sir Roeeberry and Zircon. vrSiTi. oberry' wini*er of the Great Northern Steeples in 1924 and 1925, and the Great Northern Hurdlea also in the latter year, made great progress after his arrival at Onkaparinga, but he broke down on the eve of the race and could not be started. His owner-trainer, Mr W. Garrett, of Auckland, determined to"' try again, and he was back on the scene the nest year (1929) with Zircon. Zircon reached the port in splendid order, and he had a lead of several lengths coming down the hill at the home turn, but luck was again against Mr. Garrett, and the gelding fell at the last fence just when success seemed assured. Bang Bang, winner of this year's Australian Steeples, also fell in this Great Eastern. Both Sir Koaeberry and Zircon were sold in Australia.

Billy Boy, like Bang Bang, is an exhunter, and he is undoubtedly one of the safest and most accomplished jumpers the Dominion has had for several years. The Great Eastern country should certainly not trouble him. The Onkaparinga course is situated in the bills district adjacent to Adelaide, and it provides South Australian sportsmen with the principal 'chasing in the State.
