NO WONDER HE STAYED

Bang Bang, who a fortnight ago at Caulfield won the Australian Steeplechase, in which the New Zealanders, Copey (ninth to finish) and Make Up (fell), once again tailed, was originally trained in the hunting field in South Australia, and was purchased by Mr. J. S. Dunbar, of Melbourne, for 600 guineas. He is a stablemate of Polygonum, winner of the Grand National Hurdles at Flemington on 2nd July. His 6min 59see for the three and a half miles of the race was a time record. Bang Bang gets his name from his sire, Two Shot, a horse by Two from a Pistol mare. Two Shot mixed his stud duties with racing for many years, and he was still racing in the north of South Australia_ a couple or so seasons back. It was quite the usual thing to see him being led away behind a sulky to a race meeting 100 miles from his homo stable, and the travelling did not seem to trouble him in the least. It is little wonder that Bang Bang, the son of such a hardy sire, was abie to see out the distance of Australia's longest steeplechase.
