NEW TROTTING CLUB

FORMED IN CANTERBURY

. A decision to form a trotting club, to be known as the North Canterbury Trotting Club, was unanimously made at a meeting held at Rangiora, on Thursday evening. About sixty trotting enthusiasts from all parts of the district as well as some from Christchurch attended.

Mr. W. A. Kelcher, who was elected to the chair, said that trotting had not received the support it might have done in the district, probably on account of the proximity to Christchurch. Some years ago a club had been formed in Rangiora, but as a totalisator permit was not available _no race meeting was held. In Ms opinion there was the possibility of a permit being obtained now. Mr. W. L. Aynsley, who convened the meeting, said that although he was not the originator of the proposal to form a trotting club, he was gratified that the attendance was so large. It had been suggested that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of "getting at" the North Canterbury Kacing Club, but this was not the case,_ as he wished to see the racing club continue its galloping meetings. The meeting elected officers, with the Right Hon G. W. Forbes as patron. The secretary (Mr. L. W. Harley), was authorised to call a meeting of members in the event of an application for a totalisator permit being unsuccessful, to decide whether a non-totalisator meeting should be held.
