ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

A SPEEDY TWO-YEAR-OLD

(By "Eangatira.")

Trenthain horses •with engagements at the Manawatu Hunt Meeting next week were worked this morning, but noiie were seriously tried against tho watch. Tho plough was again in commission, and provided fair going. The rain that fell in tho city overnight was not experienced at the course. Flower (G. Williams) did an easy five furlongs in lniin lOsee. Purse (W. H. Jones) ran half a mile comfortably in 55see, Solitaire II (T. Young) and Milnrow (J. Eule) doing a similar task. Boyal Game (A. Skipper) went once round at half-pace, then jumped tho flight of three schooling hurdles. Bright Soug (W. E. Shand) did pacework only, and Black Mint (Williams) cantered twice round. FOR LATER MEETINGS. ' Tho work of the other horses was also of an easy nature. Vitaphone (Shand) and Sir Pombal (G. 1\ Dick) sprinted sis furlongs. Cape of Good Hope (B. G. Bush) joining in at tho five furlongs. The last-named just beat Vitaphone home, with Sir Pombal, who has lately been working badly, sis lengths away. Vitaphone's time was lmin 19'3-osee, the last halfmile in 53see. He did hia work well, but so did tho maiden, Caf>e of Good Hope. ' . : Capo Paraki (Dick) and Miss Beatrice (J. Gunn) ran sis furlpugs together in lmin 22sec. Cape Fair (Bush) and Golden Horn (Dick) took the same time for six furlongs, sprinting home well from the half-mile in 51see. Posy (Gunn) pulled out to lead Late Jest (A. Leach) home by a head at the end of their Jive furlongs in lmin 6 1-osee, the last half-mile in 52 4-ssee. Posy looks very fit. Normandy and Red Sun went a round together, the first half at half-pace and tho final half at three-quarter pace. Moab Queen, who has come in again after a short let-up, did steady pacing only. Cardinal Moon went twice round, sprinting home the last half-mile at a good three-quarter pace. Vivette (B. Morris) ran a mile, doing the last half-mile in. 52see. Clangor, Eminent, and Meritor did a couple of rounds of pacing separately.. Cottesmore was never much above a strong halfpace in his half-mile. CERTAINLY NOT GOING. Gay Court worked twice round at an easy half-pace. He is certainly not going to Marton to meet the brilliant Foreign Queen on the same terms. It is. tho opinion of many that Foreign Queen is the fastest thing on four legs at present in tho land, and the Marton Meeting will probably add its quota of confirmation to this view. Joie de Val, who. lias not long been back from a short spell, did two rounds of half-pace work. Fancy Girl went a round at half-pace,, then cantered round with the Black Ronald—Matin Bell three-year-old filly that A. Goodman has added to his team during the last week.

Palm, Arrowzone, and Aroma, who have been physicked, did trotting only. Azure, making his reappeara: 9 on the track, did pace work, and so did Araios. Azure has been out in. the paddock for over a mouth as a result of an attack of kidney trouble, but he is quito all right again now. ■■:.,..

J. Ayres worked his Acre—Wench gelding on the lead. ' Tho youngster is very nervous, but is beginning to settle down. W. J. "Wood, who shares Ayres's stable,-gave Gay Court's halfbrother by Lord Quex light work on the two-year-old track.

Three two-year-olds provided an interesting three furlongs' sprint on the two-year-old track, Pegged Exchange (Paper Money—Epitaph) proving much too speedy for his ' two companions. With Shand in the saddle, he started from behind and beat Quietly (Chief Ruler—Timid), ridden by Gunn, by two lengths, with Epigram (Pombal — Episode), ridden by Leach, three lengths further back. Pegged Exchange's time for the distance was 38 see. He looks like turning out the centre's Tankard this year. Other two-year-olds who were worked included Mr. V. Eiddiford's pair, Valdarado (Silverado—Valerie) and Secrecy (Chief Ruler—Silver Link), but they were not sprinted. Most of the youngsters came out on the track later on in the morning; ' Tobaeeoland has been turned out for a spell of indefinite duration. He had his filial chance for the present at the Grand National Meeting. He was right up fifth in the blanket finish staged in the Selwyn Handicap, the last race of the fixture, but- he was not capable _of putting on the final touches required for success. Cimabue, who has gone lame again,, has also been turned out,, and it is unlikely that he will be asked to face another preparation. * 1
