ANNUAL MEETING HELD

NEXT CHAMPIONSHIPS

Forty delegates, representing the twenty affiliated associations, attended the annual meeting last evening of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. Sir. A. G. Henderson, one of the honorary life members, presided. Extracts from the annual report and balance-sheet have been published already m "The Post." The final quarterly re"port of the old Management Committee stated that the location and dates for the 1932 jSeiv Zealand championships and the hnal matches in the Anthony Wilding bhield and Kathleen Nunneley Casket competitions had not beqn decided yet lhe committee had approached the Wellington Association in the matter, but it was desirable that certain difficulties should be overcome before definite commitments and arrangements "were entered upon. A delegate asked when.it was thought a decision would be come to in regard to the championships. Mr. Henderson said that the new Management Committee would have to make the matter one of the first items tor consideration. "So far we have been ■™l ~! c to arran Se suitable terms with the Wellington Association," he added, "but 1 take it the matter ought to be fixed up within a fortnight." A BALL QUESTION. Discussion took place in committee concerning a section of the Management Committee s report in regard to a decision to adopt a certain make of ball for the 1932-33 championships and for all matches and tournaments conducted by the association. A file of correspondence was read, and one particular letter was reterredto the Management Committee. At a later stage, when consideration was being given to the annual report the secretary (Mr. D. M. Kean) said he was certain the particular make of ball would be used in all tournaments conducted by the association. The report disclosed that since the close of last year on 30th June, receipts, including £1 18s 9d on account of subscriptions for the ensuing year, had totalled £51 10s and payments £32 4s 4d. Amounts outstanding totalled £111 Ss 2d. With the exception of the clause dealing with the ball question, the Management Committee's report was adopted. NEW SOUTH WALES LADIES' TEAM. In moving the adoption of the annual report, Mr. Henderson paid high tribute to the New South Wales ladies' team, which visited New Zealand last season, ana, in particular, to the performance of ■Miss J. Hartigan, one of the members ol "je team, who won the ladies' singles at the New Zealand championship tournament in Auckland in January. Mr. Henderson expressed the hope that Miss Hartigan would visit New Zealand again m the coming season and defend her title. The annual report and balance-sheet tvere adopted. Mr H. I. Graves (Otago), discussing school tennis, suggested that it might be advisable for the local associations to try and see if they could assist the New Zealand Association to obtain a little more assistance for tennis in the secondary schools. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— Patron, His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe; president, Mr. G. Gore; secretary and treasurer, Mr. D. M. K.ean; management committee, Messrs A. G. Henderson, M. E. Denniston, N. A. Foden, C. G. White, W. J. Melody, H I. Graves, and Dr. A. E. Park; hon. auditor, Mr. F. O. Austin; representative on the Lawn Tennis Association (London) and in the International Lawn Tennis Federation, Mr. F. H. Woodward, M.B.E. There was opposition, particularly from the country associations, to the recommendation of the Management Committee that the annual subscription of associations, including the one penny per capita levy to be allocated for junior tennis, should be fixed at 4d for every active member of the associations. An amendment, fixing the annual subscription at 3d, was carried. On the recommendation of Mr. G. N. Goldie, it was decided to ask the Management Committee to consider the question of providing badges similar to the present championship badges to ex-champions who are ineligible under the present regulations for them.
