BRISBANE, This Bay. Running- • amok in a high-powered racing car,- reported to have .been stolen from a city showroom, a man, accompanied by his six-year-old daughter, drove at breakneck speed among the aeroplanes at the Areherfield Aerodrome, crashed into two 'planes and broke through three ( fences before before he left the aerodrome with three cars in pursuit.
Sir Kingsford Smith 's Southern Cross 'ivas one of the machines menaced. "Smithy" stood guard with a loaded rifle, forcing the driver of the car to -sheer away from the Southern Cros3. The' famous aviator led the subsequent chase after the wrecker, and though (he cars were travelling sixty miles an hour he fired shot after shot at the tires of the racer until the fugitive stopped. The .man submitted quietly. Later 'William Elder was charged with being under the suspicion of being insane. ,
