DANISH COMPETITION

"Evening Post,1' :Ist August. British market'keenness in New Zealand butter of a few-dajsago appears to have subsided, but' prices keep fairly .firm' at round about 1,05s lOd per cwt and a little better for special lines. The price 105s to 106s gives a return to producers of approximately 10 7-8d per pound f.o.b. ..Danish butter is quoted at 114s to 115b per cwt on the spot, but both Danish and New Zealand are selling retail at the same price, viz., Is 3d per .pound! Danish has come down on the week froih between 120s to 123s per cwt. Stocks of New Zealand and Australian are light at;5062 and 2150 tons respectively. Tlie Empire Marketing Board's estimate o£ stocks of all butter in store at the equivalent of 876,21S boxes is compared with 924,712 boxes held at this time last year.

Other competing butter prices are unealted Dutch 118s to 122s and Argentine 88s to 945, and salted butters are quoted at 84s to 94s for Baltic, including Siberian.

Butter prices remain very low in New York and Montreal, namely, 19 cents and 17% cents per pound respectively.

New Zealand, 105s to 107s; unsalted, 108s to 110s; Danish, 114s; Siberian, 863 to 87s. Cheese: Market firm with more inquiry. New Zealand white 56s to 575, coloured 54s to 555; Canadian white and coloured 685."

Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., have received the following market report from Messrs. Trengrouse and Nathan, L'td., London, dated 30th July:—"New Zealand butter 106s per cwt, Australian, Danish, easier. New Zealand cheese, white 57s per cwt, coloured 555; improved demand."
