MAIL TRAIN LEAVES LINES
MISHAP: NEAR NEWCASTLE
. . . SYDNEY, 29th July. A train derailment occurred-at Fassifern,'in the vicinity'of Newcastle; owing to a broken rail. Five ' passenger coaches in tho North Coast mail train bound for Sydney left the rails, ploughing up the permanent way, throwing passengers off their seats, and causing alarm.
The mishap probably would have' been attended with serious consequences had not the driver slowed down just before, at a point whero' repairs to a culvert wero under way.
