COMBINED MEETING

RACING AT RICCARTON

•fO-MbRROW'S PROSPECTS

(By Telegraph.)

(Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,

The Combined Meeting promoted by the Amberley and Hororata Racing Clubs and J the Christchurch Hunt Club will be held at' Riccartou to-morrow. It bus proved 'a popular project, so far as the preliminaries are concerned, owners having given it strong support, and it will provide some iatcresting sport as a preliminary to the Grand National Meeting; Prospects are £or a good track, and it is anticipated ■that the meeting will be well patronised. Tho item • carrying the largest stake i» the Combined Handicap, for which a ,us«ful field of eleven has accepted. Wea-. therly has demonstrated that he can go a •good mile, and he was unlucky when tried at a mile and a quarter at South Canter? bury. ' Saltpot won twice at Otaki last ro6nth, at a mile and fifty-five yards, and, though, he failed at Trentham, the longer journey may suit him. Craigavon has been very consistent lately, an easy win at Oamaru following on five places. He stays well. Nightflyer beat Craigayou at Ashburton at even weights, and looks a likely sort to improve. Hounslow was fourth at Ashburton, and needs only to repeat his best form to be dangerous. Water Polo was third, in the same race, and will be watched with interest for another staying effort.' There is all the 'material for a good contest. Special interest will also be shown iv the Homeby Steeplechase, which has attracted a field of nine.' Calham had to be spelled after winning the Otnco Steeplechase, but he registered a.good performance to finish second at O.amaiu. Lancer has not .-had a race over country, but has shown that, the Riccarton schooling fence* are easy for Him.; Apache is back* wairf, and, Deportment has disappointed this winter. ' Royal Reign raced well at Trentham and should he hard to beat 'ever two miles. Fresh Breeze lias recovered from a mishafp.at Ashburton and ehculd run prominently. Oriflamb won at Oamaru, but the fences were easy. Marco Polo and Peterette do not appeal.
