IMPOSTOR GAOLED
AN HABITUAL CRIMINAL
A sentence of six months' imprisonment was imposed by Mr. E. Page, S.M., today on David Carter, aged 55, who had pleaded guilty yesterday to two chargss of obtaining £4 by false pretences, of stealing a parrot, and of committing a breach of his release on probation. Detective-Sergeant Revell said that Carter was an habitual criminal. He had been released from prison on 14th April, 1930, and had reported regularly until February of this year, when, he had disappeared. Nothing,more was heard of him until he was arrested by Detectives Ritchie and Smith on the present charges. "Since February the accused has been going around the country imposing on various people, especially taxi-drivers," concluded Mr. Revell. "He has over thirty convictions for forgery,- false pretences, theft,, and pretty well every offence in the calendar."
The "Magistrate imposed the sentence on one of the false pretences charges, on the others the accused being convicted and ordered to come np for sentence if called upon within two years. .
