THE PLUNKET BALL
The Plunket ball is now a yearly insti tutipn, leaving its mark on a high level of success. It is looked forward to by huiiclreds who,desire not onlyto dance but to help the society's . work. TMs year the ball bears the quaint title of "Snowed: Under,"' .a smiling protest against- the. times, and au invitation to all to c6me and be'snug, and happy for one evening, safe from the storms of this year of struggle. ; Mrs. James Hannah, the' originator of the design, promises a glittering spectacle, and is converting, the Town Hall-into, a fa^ry den. served with all bodily comforts. : • :
The ball'will commence at 9 p.m. with a small, scena, in "which Miss' Sinclair Breen'wiil appear, as ."The Spirit of Better {Times," . followed by 'an original, idea—a winter, sports ballet, trained by.: Mr. David Bevitt.
Afterwards Mis 3: Estelle Beere 's Blue Danube Ballet' will' appear, followed by. a parade of ■living.posters entered into by many city firms—^a 'competition to illustrate the best 'interpretation of the title "Snowed Under." v, ' '
Mrs. B. B. Wood is chairwoman .of the ball,'and the executive consists of Mrs. Tythe-Brown,.' ' president of the society, Mesdames Macarthy Reid," J. Haniiah, J." MacEldowney,' C. Eichardson, arid F. Hodspn., ; ." .;' ' : The Eluiiket Society is badly in'need of funds this year—it, has many extra calls upon its resource's, and .in addition has-to supply emulsion and Karitane food products_ .for babies and young children of needy parents, many of < whom, are relief workers. . .

Tickets will-, be; on sale on Monday at. the Bristol, and cabaret tables and gallery seats may be booked a week in advance. The ball takes place, on Friday, 15th July (Kace Week).. -
