PRACTICAL HELP, NOT
ABUSE
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Most people, even workers, must have been glad to see under the word "Misrepresentation" the denial of Mr. McKeen's statements made at his public meeting at Newtown on- Monday night. It is. a great pity that the time of Cabinet Ministers has to be used in denying such unworthy remarks: A few words spoken privately to Mr. Coates, before any public utterance was made, would'have been the more manly wayj Is it not time that a ■ halt was cried and that these tactics of pin-pricking, agitating, and constantly stirring up strife came to an end? For the Jast six months or so Labour leaders, have not' raised the'movement in public opinion; . It may not be out of place to remind them" that, as members of Parliament, they are not paid to go up and down the country keeping everything in a ferment and preventing peace ' and progress.' It is .';seldom that the names of Labour- members are prominent in promoting movements , for, .alleviating in a practical manner those in distress. I trust these members will please take me kindly. Let them talk less and with 7 true, clean language,' and do more to help the needy in these hard times. Th en New Zealand - will recognise the value of the movement and say "thank you."—l am, etc., '. ..
HOPEFUL;
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I desire to express my gratitude to the "Smith' Family" for their great kindnesses to me and my family during the past four months. I have "once again got into regular work, and hope to be able to repay them as time' goes • on. I have been a member of a labour union for years, but when one requires" assistance in times such as these one knows where his best friends are. I .would advise those members of the ' Labour Party to join the "great Smith Family," where they would find scope to do much good rather than running' about the country preaching discontent and strife.—l am, A' FRIEND IN DEED.
