'" • DUNEDIN, 16th June, iv The Otago Education, Board is continuing it's intensive campaign for the -.retention of the Bunedin Training College, and to-day appointed its chairman and secretary to proceed to WeliJington and personally confer with the ■executive authorities, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Finance, to ■point out that the weight of evidence "on financial and other grounds is deifinitely against the Cabinet's decision ..to close two of the training colleges f The chairman, Mr. J. Wallace, said Jh& thought the board shouia take some action. A letter received from the Minister contained the figures which lad beea -asked for, but the members' would' understand that there had not been time to criticise them. However, ;Mr. Masters had showed that the two colleges could be run for £10,900. The board said' that the four could be run for £8000. . Mr. Masters should be 'thanked. He had done what some Mm J.sters would riot have done—given .them the official figures.
"Mr. J. H. "Wilkinson moved, the following resolution: —
tV'Asthe weight of evidence on financial and" other grounds is definitely against the Cabinet's decision to close two of the training colleges, this board -considers it essential that there should fbe a personal conference between its re- . presentatives and the Prime Minister 'and the Ministers of Education and Finance, and that in view of the •-urgency of the matter the board's representatives proceed immediately to -Wellington."
-' The motion was carried, and Mr. "Wallace and Mr. Carrington, the secretary, were appointed to proceed to Wellington, , .
