RED DEER SHOOTING
IRRESPONSIBLE GUNMEN
Reporting on the red deer shooting Reason, the annual report- of the Wellington Acclimatisation: Society says: "The number of licences issued .to stalkers indicates that there are still a number of sportsmen willing to take a chance for a 'head.' This despite the -wholesale destruction of the deer in our district.
"The returns from settlers just to land are indicative of many legs' deer than last year. Opinions are expressed that the time has arrived for a review of the situation so far as the Wellington district is concerned. It is stated by landowners that the position is such that they can cope with the situation themselves, and in some instances it is thought that protection should be reimposed. Landowners complain bitterly about the irresponsible individuals roaming over their property,' damaging stock and fences, but' killing few deer.
