THE FIRE BOARD
--, The "Wellington Fire Board met to-day, tie chairman (Mr. N. W. Nelson) presiding. The return of fires for April showed that there were 44 calls, 28 of which were to actual fires.
An acceptance of the position of superintendent was received from Superintendent C. A. Woolley, who asked .whether the board intended to-pay the cost of his removal to--Wellington., It was decided that whatever was decided in this matter should be submitted to the Audit Department. /
A-; request was received from Island Bay'for a fire alarm in Jackson street. It was stated that the nearest alarm was in Tamar street or on the Parade, and that the time lost in the ..case' of; a fire might result in damage: The deputy-super-intendent's report was to the effect that an alarm would cost £20, and other expenses £2 7s, and that this was hardly warranted at the present time.
