DISILLUSIONED
• If anyone thinks that the solution to our present economic troubles is to be found in Bussia's Five-year Plan and in the acceptance of Communism, a perusal of "Tho City of the Bed Plague," by George Popoffi (George Allen and Unwin, Ltd.), should brin<* speedy disillusionment. It tells the story of a Bolshevik experiment outside Russia, of Soviet rule in a Baltic town. In five months a nourishing business centre with a conspicuously Western civilisation is reduced to a state of total economic collapse, and to something worse. The story makes thrilling reading, and the book is ono which should have a wide circulation. It has the recommendation of the Book Society. One can well imagine that' the author would not be exactly welcomed in Russia: indeed, wero he to set foot there, ho would very quickly find his surname translated into actual fact.
