■•.,.: NEAR HUTT BRIDGE CONSIDERED DANGEROUS Members of the .executive committee «f;the "Wellington Automobile Club expressed the opinion last evening that the traffic island on .the 'Wellington side of the new bridge at Lower Hutt -was a. danger to and likely to cause-more accidents. ■•"■ The;secretary read a letter from the lower Hutt Borough .Council "' stating that a_ subcommittee of that body had gone into -the ; matter and considered the.':island quite safe. The sub-com-mittee pointed out that the speed limit..in .the vicinity of the islandrwas 15 •in'.p;h.j and that Railway ■ buses ■ had no-difficulty in negotiating the turns. .The chairman of the Club, Mr.; E. "Wilson suggested that' a deputation representing . the ■ Club ; might •wait on the Petone Borough Council in;' connection, with the matter. v Another suggestion was that the -Council should be approached and asked to give an undertaking that motorists not going right round the island when .making a right-hand turn from Eailway ayenue~intb Victoria street should not "be prosecuted. It. was pointed put, however, that the prosecution in• a recent.case' of a. similar nature was'undertaken by , the, Police' and1 not the' Borough Council.' r ■ After some discussion-it-was decided to write- to the Borough Council suggesting that portion of the island should be cut off and rounded. - :-• :■
