NATIONAL COUNCIL
MEETING OF WOMEN A number of matters of interest to women, came before a meeting, of the Wellington Branch of the National Council of Women heia last evening. A deputation ■ from the Women Teachers' Association was received, after explanation had been made of the conaitions umler complaint, ana questions asked ana answerea.- It was decided vto support the resolutions passed by the W.T.A. at a meeting heia in the afterrodn, ana to help in arranging a public meeting. It was suggested .. that speakers from other parts shouia be asked to be present at tho'meeting, and every to arrange it on broaa lines Kboth in matters consiaered and the' manner of treatment. The representative of the. Trainea Nurses Association brought forward a. resolution protesting against. the tax of one shilling in the & on women's earnings, unless women were definitely brought within the limits of benefits of taxation. The resolution was endorsed, and it was agreea to forward it to the W.T.A. to be aaaea to the subjects of aiscussion at the public meeting. Special objection was taken by all present to the lowering of the school age for children, specially in view of the fact that Government had-deprived the kindergartens of funas and their scope would necessarily be limitea. A thira protest mentionea ana warmly supported was that against domestic servants being exempted from ■ taxation. The council members were unanimously against . any such exemption as .unnecessary ana unjust. Two members of the council were aaaecl to the aelcgation to'the W.T.A. meeting'to be heia to-day, ana it was agreea that these subjects should also be made subjects for public discussion provided the teachers were in accord.
