ANGLING AT TAUPO
FISH OF 131LB TAKEN
The fishing at Taupo has been good recently (states a local correspondent}. Several limits have been taken, and one fish -weighing 13Jlb was taken at the outlet of the 'Waitahan'ni. The launches have been fairly busy with some very good catches to their credit. The Tongariro Eiver is improving, and some very nicely conditioned fish have been taken during the ,past weekj one party from Wanganui averaging five to. six fish a day. Other catches were somewhat similar. The mouths of the river are fishing well. The Delta is fishing very well at present. Trolling parties are coming in with from 30 to 40 fish. TuolKng.in the vicinity of Stump Bay is particularly good. . The Tauranga-Taupo outlat is fishing fairly well, anglers taking- anything from six to ten fish a day. The river itself is not fishing well, and heavy rain will improve matters. When the weather permifts, the Waitahanui is fishing well, iOno angler securing his limit, averaging s£lb, the largest BJlb. The same rod took four fish one evening, the largest 13Jlb, with an average of 7^lb. One angler camped here for 12 days took 86 fish, averaging sJlb. There were several 7, 8, and 91b fish, the heaviest weighing lOJlb. Dry fly fishing has been quiet lately, the few rods operating picking up a few nice fish. There ha:s been an excellent rise in the river lately. The launches have bean kepft busy, and have come in with some very good catches, the fish being gfll in very fair order. The catches raiiged . from 10 fish for half a day to C» fish for four rods for the day. Two overseas visitors took 117 fish- in (>g days, fishing quietly. Another partjr took 102 fish m five days. • "
