YOUNG MAN'S FLIGHT
BUILT HIS OWN AEROPLANE
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. A young ioxtonian, Mr. R. Chrystall the 21-year-old son of Mr. John Chrystall! tor a number of years Mayor of the town, yesterday made a successful trial flight in an aeroplane of his own construction. Uie plane made its appearance over the beach area at about 5.20 p.m., and, after Hying along the river course, made a successful and easy landing at the ocean end of the beach. On alighting, the youthful aeroplane constructor was the recipient ot hearty congratulations from friends on the success of his machine, and on having accomplished its first flight. The flight marks the successful culmination of a boy s ambition, and reflects the greatest credit upon the young man for the great amount of pluck and determination he has shown in fulfilling his desire against innumerable difficulties. For the past twelve months he has put into his hobby every available minute of his spare time and all his savings to realise this childhood desire of making something that would fly. Mr. Chrystall has carried out Inn plan secretly, and without financial or manual assistance, often working into the early hours of the morning. The machine, which has at last been completed, is a single-seater monoplane with a wingspread of 25 feet and an overall length of 17 feet. It is powered with a special Lawrence two-cylinder aero engine of 28 horse-power. The wing and tail units are of the Heath-Parasol design, and constructed of regulation material.
