FAVOURITES' POOR DAY AT TAUHERENIKAU •■ The Easter meetings were continued yesterday, the weather being generally fine. The attendances were satisfactory, but there were the now customary declines in totalisator turnovers, the only exception, the Kumara meeting, being due to the fact that this fixture was not held on Easter Monday last year, but on the Wednesday following. At Christchurch the Great Easter Handicap "was won by the , Trentham-trained Autopay, for whom the success was the first since he scored in the AJ.G. Epsom in the spring. Other Trentham horses to win were Red Sun (valuable Southern Champion 'Hack; Handicap at Riverton), Lady Rene (sprint at Kumara ),I'an^Ebporn- ■Sir^ Pombal, Waratah, and Eminent at Tauherenikau. Antique/ridden by H. Gray, put up the best performance in \\ his . career in winning the Autumn Handicap, I.].- miles, at." Auckland L under the solid impost of 9.8. Peter Jackson won the Great Northern - St. Leger, but he had a close call from Gibraltar. W^: '■/-. At Randwick Admiral .Drake failed only by a "head to win the valuable Sydney Cup, bis vanquisher being this.-: year's V.R.G. Derby winner, Johnnie Jason. Veilniond was thirdl.
