NARROW LEAD
TOURNAMENT SHIELD The tennis finals on the Miramar courts to-day (reported in another column) were all that remained to complete the contests comprising the New Zealand University tournament. Competitions in athletics, swimming, and basketball were held yesterday, and with only the tennis finals to be decided Canterbury had a lead of but a quarter of a point from Auckland in the contest for the Tournament Shield. The Auckland representatives won the boxing, swimming, and basketball, and Canterbury the rowing and athletics. The points for the shield, after yesterday's contests, were as follows:—
