The Wellington team of athletes whicK spent the ■ Easter holidays in Motueka competed with success at the sports meeting held there yesterday afternoon by th« Motueka Amateur- Athletic Club. Competitors were also present from Nelson and the West Coast, and, favoured by perfect weather, the meeting provided an interestins afternoon's sport. There was a good attendance, over £50 being taken at tlia gates. ' ' One of the ■ features- of the gathering was the performance of 4lt 7M:in in the ladies' high jump by a Motueka girl, MissDouglas. It is possible that applications will be made to have the performance recognised as a New Zealand record. Miss J. Sharp (Wellington) cleared the bar at 4ft 4%in. Miss C. Millar (Wellington),' won the 75yds ladies' handicap from scratch, and Miss J. Willson (Wellington), with a leap of 13ft lOin, won the ladies' long jump. In the 410 yds ladies' relay the Wellington team, comprising;' Misses D. Hurley, J. > Willson, E. Blatherwick, and C. Millar, defeated the Motueka girls. Wellington was not represented in th'a cycling events, in which a Westport rider, A. Caldwell, was very successful. C. H. Jenkins (Wellington), who won the 100 yds handicap from scratch, was credited with 9 4-ssec. He was second to A.- Welply (Wellington), 10yds, in the 220 yds handicap for the Bowers Cup, which. Jenkins had won at the two previous meetings. Welply'e time was 22sec. . A. Hill (Wellington), ex-New Zealand champion, won the one mile walk. With a start of 45 yards, A.-Mackay (Wellington) defeated E. V. Wills (Motueka) in. the one mile flat fpr the E. J. Wills Cup. Wills passed Mackay about 250 yards,from the tape, but Mackay challenged strongly:" and headed Wills off. He won by a comfortable margin. First place in the 120 yds hurdles went to G. Hetherington (Wellington), ecr, with L. McGreevy (Wellington),. sydsi. second. J. T. Fleming (Wellington) won the 440 yds handicap from "scratch in fast time. This event carried with it the Kerr Cup. Flighty (Wellington) was in good form, lie cleared the bar at sft Sin, and with his 3in handicap, won first /place.. During the afternoon Flighty, gave an exhibition of pole vaulting. Crowe, who has been transferred frop Motueka to Murchison, was made a presentation by Mr. Harry Manoy, on behalf of th« Motueka Club. The Wellington team (A. Mackay, C« Brown, A. Welply, and C. H/, Jenkins) won the one mile medley relay. Browa was also successful in the hop, step, and jump.'
