A WIN FOR CANTERBURY

BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Enttusiasni ran high at the contests on Saturday in the annual New Zealand inter-University tournament, and in each branch of sport there were some good performances.. There was, too, plenty- of good fun, which is- inseparable from gatherings of University students. The preliminaries having been disposed of in the morning, the finals of the boxing matches were held at the Winter Show Stadium in the evening. The honours were won by Auckland with three championships. Otago won two championships, and Canterbury and Victoria College one each. In the eight-bared race held on the harbour on Saturday afternoon, Canterbury scored a comfortable win from Auckland, with the Victoria College crew third., - .. . ' Other events during the day included the tennis preliminaries at the Miramar courts and the swimming heats at -the tepid baths. Yesterday morning a special Communion service was arranged at St. Paul's ProCathedral, and in the evening a service was held at the Congregational Church. This was followed by a performance of the religious play "Eager Heart," presented by members of the V.U.C.S.C.M. in conjunction with the Terrace Congregational choir. In the afternoon visiting students were taken for a motor drive to Akatarawa.
