PLOTS FOR VEGETABLES
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I desire, through the columns of your valuable newspaper, to bring before the notice of the public of Wellington that the Unemployment Board's rules provide that men. employed on relief work shall, in their own time, make an earnest endeavour to provide themselves with vegetables. There are numbers of men who live in rooms, fiats, and houses, where there is no land; suitable for cultivation. In. these cases the local committee is desirous of providing garden plots, and with this object in view I would appeal to owners of land who would be prepared to set aside areas for the use of unemployed. In this way it is hoped to create community gardens in various, parts of the city. Two purposes will be served, namely, men will be provided with spare time occupation, and the tremendous demands for vegetables at the Mayor's Relief Dppot: and other, charitable organisations will be eased. If owners of land,, not, required; for immediate use, will kindly supply particulars to the secretary, Unemployment Committee; care of of Labour,.Te Aro! Post Office Building, Ghuznee street, arrangements will be made for allotment and supervision.—l am, etc., .'". -.1
