The jnembcrs i /of.,t]ie i .Wellington cricket team, with the exception of C. S. Dempster, who is" already in Dunedin on business, left for tho South last night to meet Otago in tho Plunket Shield match at Dunedin, commencing on Friday. The team differs considerably from that which represented Wellington in Dunedin two years ago, when an evenly-contested game resulted in a win for Wellington by 64 runs. Of those who took part in that match, only three are included in the Wellington team for the coming engagement—T. C. Lowry, H. M. McGiri-, and J. K. Lamason. Another member of the Wellington team on that occasion was F. T. Badcock; who will be on the opposing side this time. The other Wellington representatives who played in Duriedin two years ago were W. A. Baker, H. Foley, A. M. Hollings, D. Cameron, S. Ward, ,S. Newman, and M. '"Henderson. Wellington made 283 ■foiv nine wickets, declared (Hollings 46, McGirr 73, Bffidcock 62) and 172 (Hollings 34, .McGirr 40), Otago replying with 198 (Shepherd 52, Elmos 40, Alloo 36) and 193 (Shepherd 49, Cavanagh S7). Otago's team for tho match commencing on Friday is also a much dif-. ferqivb side from that which met Wellington at Carisbrook two 'years ago. A. Knight, D. A. R, Moloney, C. S. Elmes, and A. J. Dunning are the only members of the 1929-30 side to' retain their places, although V. G. Cavanagh is twelfth man for the coming match. Tho others who. played against AVellington two years ago were J. S. Shepherd, J. MeMullan, A. W. Alloo, L. Groves, D. Hecnan, and G. Lcmin. TEAMS AND UMPIBES. This position has been occupied in Wellington's two previous Plunket Shield matches thisseason by Lamason. X3n tho selectors' list Morgan occupied twelfth position, but on form shown in club cricket it will be difficult to leave the colt out of the team.. The umpires for the match are Messrs. W." Butler and W. W; Maekersy. ' ' ' . ■; . ':.: INTEREST. IIT:..OTAGd. ; ~. ! Otago cricket enthusiasts arc reported to be looking forward to the match with great interest, and some are hoping for a; repetition' of tho memorable match of the 1923-24 season, when a record match aggregate of 1905 runs was compiled. One report from Dunedin states:—"The- Wellington team will bo a strong, all-round combination. The public will be' anxious to see Dempster, who created such a- favourable impression with the New Zealand team at Home, while ;T; C-Lowry, the captain, is another great player and a great general. He is also an'attractive bat. K. James is the New Zealand wicketkeeper, arid is, in addition, a good batsman. H. MeGirr _is the style of batsman that ah|jys appeals to the public, and; is also a good bowler. Newman, is a bowler the Diirie'diu public will watch with interest. The Otago supporters will be delighted if Roger Blunt repeats: the batting performances he gave against Canterbury, and will hope to see Hawkesworth show tho stubborn, defence- he /displayed, against panterbui-y. Dickinson's bowling should considerably strengthen the .t.cani, while Badcock is showing his best form at present, and Knight, Moloney, Smith, Coupland, Dunning, Cherry, and Elmes have all been performing well of late, so Otago supporters arc therefore expecting the Otago team to put up a good fight against Lowry and his men." .
