MELBOURNE, 7th February.
In. the swimming championships, the Australian ehampim, Andrew Charlton, -was defeated by the youthful Noel Eyan in the 440 yards free-style championship. Bysun-'s-. time was smin 5 l-ssec, -which is dow compared -with Charlton 5s 4mia 55 2-ssee when, he defeated Eyan in. Sydney recently over the same distance.
The judge had difficulty in. separating tho boys on Saturday. The 440 yardß tsreast stroke championship was won by F. MeClure, NewSouth Wales, in 6jnin 36 #l-sscc. The springboard dive -championship was won by E. Masters, 'Victoria. O'Connor, tho New South "Wa3es champion, was third. The women^s .440 yards freestyle championship -was won by Mollie Mitchell, New South Wales, with Frances Bult (Victoria) 2, and Eita Smith (Queensland) 3. Won by six yards. Time, 6min Baec.
