MAIN TRUNK EXPRESS

ALTERING THE TIMEr • TABLE ' •' I

For some time past the Railway Department has been considering altering the time of departure of the ordinary express from Auckland to "Wellington (states the "Auckland Star"). It has been proposed that the train should leave Auckland at about r3 p-.m. and arrive in Wellington before 8 a.m. the following day. Although the alteration is favoured in the northern and southern portions of the Nortli Island, there has been some opposition to it from the \Vanganui_ and_Wairarapa districts. A' factor which is understood to_ Tbe causing the Department some apprehension is that there would only bo one evening express from Auckland to Wellington—the Limited. As this train is what its name implies, and consists of seven or'eight .vehicles, if it is rushed with passengers extra cars have to t bo put on, and extra haulage power would bo needed.1 TiVhenv th 6 new .engines which the Department lis to have built aro leady it be. possible for ,the Limited express/to^- b$ Imadc up \ 1;o twelve ears^"'ißThJehj^one.,, of th«x, newlocomotives will ■%«£,, ,ablft'to pull, w^h ease.
