TASTE IN MUSIC

(To the 'Editor.)

.. Sir,—There is not the slightest doubt that radio enthusiasts lived in great ■anticipation of better programmes on- 2YA'« re-birth. New ownership!, .What luck! No more caustic letters through, the Press! Everybody.perfectly satisfied I".- NoV, let us check up on 2YA's doings. Have; the concerts been any better? Has thetalerit improved? Has the type of stuff selected and put over the air been selected with the-express intention of pleasing the few, or is it to be accepted as a genuine at;tempt to please the multitude? Toimy mind, the controlling authorities of, this much discussed and abused broadcasting station are floundering, and,'l dp not believe that a serious effort will ever be made to deviate from the path of selfishness that | the heads are apparently permanently set on.-.. ■ ■."■■■■■-■'

Must we be compelled to accept 2YA'« bitter pills? Why persist in broadcasting almost tuneless airs night after night' —compositions, a few admittedly good, that were composed nearly thonsands of years ago! We have.heard about these composers and have had their,,inspirations put over co often that one becomes tired listening to them. Let the dead, past bury itsdead, and its music too. We ar« now living in. an entirely different age, and it is high time 2.YA joined tiandi with us. The mournful dirges and yearsold dramatic "bunk" that'haunts this station will have-1 to be ousted to make room for broadcasts that will give lis-teners-in something to be cheerful about. We are living in.a modern age. Why persist in putting us back hundreds and hundreds of years?—l am,.etc., .-..',. RADIO.; [We publish this letter as expressing on«----newpoint; but it is scarcely necessary to state that the results—whether good or bad—of a change of control made on Ist • January cannot fairly be judged on' 13tU January.—Ed.] _ •
