PETONE SHOPPING CARNIVAL
Thousands of people were present in Jackson street, Petonc, last night Tor the official opening of the Petone Christmas Shopping Carnival and New Zealand Industries Display. A procession comprising bands, the first brigade, trades and decorated vehicles and children in fancydress proceeded along Jackson street from Victoria street to Cuba street and back to the Municipal Buildings, where gpeecbes were made' by Mr. W. Nash, M.I 1., and Mr. J. Abel. The judges.for the fancy dreß3es were Mrs. J. C. Burns and Mrs. M. J. Daniel, and the judges for New Zealand Industry Display Mr. J. Abel (president Wellington Manufacturers' Association) and Mr. K. Howitt. The following awards were made:—Girls' fancy dress: Peggy and Eileen Davis, 1; Norma Love, 2; S. Henderson, 3. Boys' fancy dress: Pat. Anderson, 1; R. Marston, 2; L. Henderson, 3. Best "of New Zealand poster display: Phil and Joyce Winnie, 1; Ngaire Bryan, 2; E. Symons, 3. Chocolate, May Merrilees, 4. Best display of New Zealandmade goods, Self Help, 1; Metiers, Ltd.. 2. Best decorated car, Liebezeits.
