HUTT VALLEY LADIES

. The Hutt Valley Ladies' Miniature Kiflc Club entertained 70 guests at a social aud dance in the clubroom on Saturday, 2Sth November, when the trophies won during the season wero presented to the various winners. Mrs. Campbell, the club president, in a happy little speech welcomed the Riiesls, and hoped they would oue aud all have a happy and enjoyable ovening.

During tho evening tho president received the executive officers of the Wellington Miniature Riflo Association. A hearty welcomo was extended to them. Tho following were present: —Mr. Wtcombc, president of tho association, and Mrs. Witcombe, Mr. Ilaase, riialrman, and Mrs. Ilaase, Mr. Wrlglcy, secretary, Mr. and Mrs. Staples, Mr. Lambert, Mr. Nick-less, and Mr. It. H. Nicholl. . Mrs. Campbell apologised for tho unavoidable absenco in the early part of tho evening of tho club's patron, Mr. Nash, M.P., and asked Jlr. W'itcombe to do the club honour and present the trophies. Mr. Witcombe referred to the Eplendld shooting of the club during the season. Tho trophies were:— A Grade. —Club champion, Mrs. Nightlnsalo; Mr. Stellin'a trophy, Mrs. Nightingale; lunncr-- ; to championship, club trophy, Mrs. Nicholas and Miss Polnton (tie); first competition (club trophy), Mrs. Lusty 1; Miss Pointon (Mrs. Child's trophy), 2; second competition (Mr. Ewarfs trophy), Mrs. Taylor, 1; Jlrs. MRS. L. EMMETT, P.W.M.C. Ladles' Champion for 1931.

"Mrs. Emmett has been actively associated ■with the sport slnco 1917, when she joined tho Petone Ladies' Club, being its lion, secretary and delegate to tho Wellington Centro during the period between 1925 and 1928. In 1925 Mrs. Emmett was runner-up to Mrs. Crawford 3n • the Wellington Championship, being one point behind. When tho P.W.M. Ladies' Club was Inaugurated in 1930 Mrs. Emmett became its first secretary, and was runner-up to the champion the same year. Besides winning the championship this year Mrs. Emmett won the competition for the greatest number of bull's-eyes scored, and in her inter-club performances made tho excellent average score of 67.50 points.

Most number of bull'seyes gained over season (Mr. Greenfield's troBhy), Mrs. Ffrost. Possibles were gained by Mesdames Taylor, Kicholas, Nightingale, and Miss Pointon. One of the most pleasing features of the evening was the presentation of the Ladies' Shield to tho Hutt Valley ladies' team by the president of the association, Mr. Witcombe, who referred to the very excellent performance of the team in having won the shield three times in succession, really a remarkable feat, constituting a record for any club. Out of a possible 560 tho team's three shoots were 531, 526, and 535. Mr. Witcombe, in asking Mrs. Greenfield, captain of the team and club, to. accept the shield, wished the ladies every success next season.

■ Mr. WrlElcy spoke very highly of the team's performance as did Mr. Staples, who emphasised that if the team had the same attention and' coaching (iiey would he there licit season to present, tho shield . again. Three cheers were given for tho team. Mrs. Greenfield, in accepting the shield on behalf of the team, returned thanks for tho very kind reception of the club's successes. Another pleasing feature of the evening was ■ presentation to Mr. Nightingale in recognition of his good work and attention shown to the club as coach. Mr. Nightingale suitably replied. Items contributed by Miss Joyce Young and Mr. M'Kenzie were greatly appreciated. After a dainty supper Mr. Nash, who was in attendance by that time, was introduced by Mrs. .Campbell to those present. Mr. Nash, to use his own words, "was a proud man to bo pation of such a line club." He wished them to again try and achieve the same result as they had done this season. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Xang Syne." P.W.M.C. LADIES. On Tuesday, 10th November, the P.W.M.C. ladies finished their 1931 season, which has been a very successful, and happy one. A »cry pleasant evening was spent on tho range, a large number of guests being present. A pairs match proved very interesting; tho pair with the highest score were Mr. and Mrs. •Peat, and tho lowest Miss E. Cunllffo ami Mr. Price. After tho match' supper was served, and the trophies won during tho year were afterwards presented by tho club's patron, Mr. Bowden. The shooting, under the capablo guidance of the club's coach, Mr. Kershaw, has improved remarkably, as different shooting events have proved. Two of tho club ttembors, Mrs. Puller and Mrs. Cunllffc, gained places and prize-money in the New Zealand championships. Tho team has also been runners-up threo-times for tho Ladles' Shield. and in interclub matches has more than held Its own. ' The A grado championship was won by Mrs. Kmmett, who shot most consistently throughout the season. The Henderson Cup also goes with the championship, to be held for the neason. The runner-up was Mrs. Fuller. The B grade championship was won by Miss Cunliffe, runner-up Mrs. Verrall. Handicap aggregates.—A grade: Mrs. Ward; runner-up, Mrs. Emmett.
